The Ab Astris family is dedicated to making their wines with Texas-grown fruit and sharing their views in this idyllic and peaceful setting.
Rock & Vine’s choice this season is the Ab Astris 2016 Montepulciano. More full-bodied than the 2015, this vintage has classic Montepulciano notes of chocolate and cola on the nose. On the palate are notes of black pepper, cherry and baking chocolate. This wine pairs best with anything tomato based, like pizza or pasta.

Rock & Vine’s choice this season is Adega Vinho’s 2019 Tempranillo Rose. This wine is pale peach in color with clean and aromatic notes. Smells of strawberries, orange blossoms and tangerines. This Rose is a medium-bodied wine with tastes of watermelon, strawberries and tangerines. Pairs well with Spanish tapas, grilled salmon, and paella.

This season's Rock & Vine pick is the CMV Rosé. This light-bodied, organic rosé has a delicate color reminiscent of flowers of the Mediterranean. White roses, red cherry and raspberry flavors, with a round and smooth finish. This Rosé pairs wonderfully with fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, frittatas and omelets. Anything you grab from a local market would pair well with this fresh, light and crisp wine.
Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards
Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards is tucked into the winding hills of Boerne. This boutique and family-owned winery is named after an ancient Christian saint that is renowned for protecting wine-growers, gardeners and birds. Silouan Bradford and his wife are dedicated to using 100% Texas grapes in their varietals. As the Bradfords like to say, “Our goal is to craft great wines from great vineyards in Texas, and by great we mean wild, interesting and authentic”.
Rock & Vine’s choice this season is the St. Tryphon Muscat Petnat. It has an old-school style; it is a dry sparkling wine that is bottle-fermented. Wild with lavender, citrus-peel and a generous mouthfeel. Think “mimosa in a glass”. Nothing needed; nothing wanting. Unfiltered goodness. 100% TEXAS.
Slate Mill Wine Collective
Slate Mill Wine Collective is located in Fredericksburg. It was opened in January 2020 with the Jones family acquisition. This collective encourages and supports their Texas boutique brands under one roof. Currently they have over 35 acres planted and support their “collective village” of winemakers with their custom crush facility.
Rock and Vine’s choice this season is the 2018 Viognier. Sommelier Jennifer Beckman provides her tasting notes: "A variety known for its heavily perfumed bouquet, the 2018 viognier has enticing aromatics boasting jasmine and white flowers. The palate delivers notes of candied Meyer lemon zest, white peach, and pineapple. With a rich body and rich mouthfeel, the viognier will hold up to most cuisines. This wine is best paired with poultry or mildly spicy Thai food.
