La Cantera Golf Course

The Resort Course

Designed by noted golf course architect Jay Morrish and PGA professional Tom Weiskopf, The Resort Course at La Cantera winds through the Texas Hill Country offering breathtaking views, the most notable being a sheer 80‐foot drop from the 7th tee to the fairway.

The 7,001 yard par 72 golf course in San Antonio features five sets of tees on each hole to accommodate every skill level. Six holes have breathtaking views of San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the scenic Texas Hill Country. Natural features include natural water features, streams, live oak groves, limestone rock outcroppings and 75 dramatic white sand bunkers.

The Resort Course was home to the PGA and Texas Open since it first opened its doors, from 1995-2009 and was the founding element of what is now an award-winning 496-room luxury resort. Subtle renovations of the Resort Course were completed in latter 2017 refining bunkers, tee complexes, greens, and a Pro Shop refresh to create a more playable environment and maintain the championship level of play. Given many accolades, the Resort Course was consistently ranked amongst the highest in the state.

About Resort Course Renovations (2017)

The Resort Course at La Cantera Resort & Spa underwent extensive renovations in 2017. The course now boasts new green complexes, tee complexes and bunkers. Tee boxes were leveled and enlarged to gain additional tee space, while greens returned to original sizes and were resurfaced with TifEagle grass. Green contours also changed to match the increased green speeds. The total number of bunkers was reduced and locations changed to better define the direction of holes and accommodate the advancements in golf equipment and distance. Bunkers were regraded, reshaped and rebuilt incorporating a technically advanced drainage and liner system. Finally, white sand was used to create a more appealing aesthetic.

“The Resort Course opened in 1995 and has consistently been rated one of the top courses in Texas ever since,” said Steve Shields, PGA, director of golf. “This renovation strikes a good balance between playing strategy, course aesthetics and environment. Golfers will experience the game with the challenges they’ve come to expect and the same spectacular views of the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio skyline. It will feel as though their playing a brand new course”
